With spring around the corner and temperatures remaining high this winter in Prescott, people are looking for local adventure. If you like mountain biking, this area boasts an impressive array of trails.

No matter what kind of mountain biker you are, experienced or beginner, there is a trail for you. There are several hundred miles of trail in the Prescott area alone, and some are not listed on maps. Choosing a trail can be overwhelming.

Meet Zac Mendenhal, Prescott native and single-speed mountain biker. Trail 318 is one of his favorites. “It offers … a variety of [terrain] to ride on,” says Mendenhal. Located in the Thumb Butte Recreational Area, this 1.4 mile-long trail is also known as “White Rock.” An extensive network of trails surrounds this area.

Prescott is the only place Mendenhal needs to feed his mountain biking habit: “I’ve never had a reason to leave,” he says.

The Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance’s website at http://www.prescottmtb.com offers information on events, trail-maintenance volunteering and trail maps. Prescott also has information on the city website at http://www.cityofprescott.net. You can also stop by any local bike shop before hitting the trails.
